What Is the Lector Ministry?
The Lector Ministry is a sacred calling within the liturgy.
Being a Lector is more than reading well — it is a ministry rooted in prayer, preparation, and a deep love of Sacred Scripture.
As Lectors, we serve God’s people by proclaiming His Word clearly, reverently, and faithfully so that it may be heard, received, and lived.
A Call to Serve
If you have heard God’s call to proclaim His Word, we invite you to prayerfully consider serving as a Lector at St. Joseph’s.
This ministry is ideal for parishioners who:
- Love Sacred Scripture
- Desire spiritual growth
- Feel called to serve the assembly during the liturgy
What It Means to Be a Lector
- The word Lector means “Reader,” but the role is far more than reading aloud.
- A Lector is called from among the assembly to serve God’s people.
- Lectors are encouraged to develop a spirituality rooted in the Word of God.
- Through prayerful preparation and study of the Scriptures, Lectors help convey God’s message with meaning and conviction.
- The readings proclaimed often challenge the Lector personally, inviting continual spiritual growth.
- Preparation should always include time for prayer, reflection, and study of the assigned readings.
