St. Joseph Parish was established in May 1992 to serve the growing Catholic community in Vacaville, especially those living south of Interstate 80. From the beginning, the parish has shared a campus with Notre Dame School on Marshall Road.
At the time of its founding, the parish included about 600 families. In 1996, the Parish Center was completed, and the first Mass in the new building was celebrated on Christmas Eve. The Center included a large multi-purpose room for weekend Masses, a chapel for weekday Mass, and parish offices. During the week, the multi-purpose room was also used for school sports and events.
On December 12, 2004, Bishop William Weigand of the Diocese of Sacramento dedicated our current church building—a milestone in our parish’s growth and faith journey.
Since 1992, St. Joseph Parish has grown from fewer than 600 families to more than 3,500 families today. As we continue to grow, our hope is that everyone who comes to St. Joseph feels welcome and at home, and experiences the presence of Christ in our parish community.
